Messiah Choral Society of Grand Junction
Call for Singers
The Messiah Choral Society produces a full performance of Handel's Messiah each year on Easter Sunday at the Avalon Theater. This is a call for singers to join our chorus for that performance. The chorus is unauditioned. We rehearse each Sunday afternoon 2-4pm beginning Jan 6, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 522 White Ave. downtown. We expect 80 singers. The roster of singers will be closed after the 3rd rehearsal so you must attend at least one of the first three rehearsals to be included in the chorus. This is an opportunity to perform this musical masterwork with orchestra and professional soloists. Our performance is a musical gift to our community (admission is free). If you have sung Messiah before come experience the thrill again. If you are new to Messiah come give it a try. You won't regret it.
Rehearsals and the performance will be under the direction of Artistic Director James Werner. Jim is an accomplished tenor, Director of Music at the First Methodist Church, Artistic Director of the High Desert Opera, and a voice teacher. Our contract with Jim gives him complete artistic authority over the performance.
Misty Sothers will be our rehearsal accompanist.
If you plan to attend the rehearsal, click on these special instructions. We will rehearse each subsequent Sunday afternoon at 2-4pm. A detailed list of all the rehearsal times is available at Rehearsal Schedule.
The Leonard Van Camp Edition of the Messiah vocal score is the preferred score for the Messiah Choral Society. We will have sufficient copies of the score for sale at the first rehearsal. The price is $10.00. If you already have a different score, bring it as differences will be minor. The page layout of the Leonard Van Camp edition is identical to the Shirmer edition so it is easy to "be on the same page" if you decide to use the Shirmer edition.
